Ashteds Solicitors, the specialist insolvency, restructuring and litigation firm, has been shortlisted as a finalist in the national Insolvency & Rescue Awards 2015 in the category of ‘Insolvency Law Firm of The Year – seven or less office locations’.

awards The awards are to be held in London on 21 October 2015 and the judging panel includes a number of the insolvency sector’s leading figures.

The nomination comes after only 15 months of trading for the niche Leicester based firm which prides itself on its specialised service to clients.   Ashwin Mody, director of Ashteds and head of the Insolvency team said: “We are delighted to have been shortlisted as one of the finalists from across the country for this prestigious award. Our ethos is to concentrate solely on our lawyers’ specialisms in order to provide our clients with the bespoke service they require. This ethos has resulted in Ashteds being recognised in the industry and across the region as a law firm of choice when it comes to handling complex insolvency, corporate recovery and litigation matters.”

The firm opened its offices at the Meridian Business Park on 1st April 2014. “The nomination for this award is testament to the hard work put in by the team and vindicates the decision taken to establish a niche offering to clients and work providers. I am particularly delighted as we are pitched against some very well-known and established firms in this sector” says Ashwin.

Lawyer Ashwin Mody leaves Spearing Waite in Leicester to set up his own legal business

A well-known lawyer says he has decided to leave an established firm to set up his own legal business because of the “dramatic” change in the sector.

Ashwin Mody, one of the leading commercial litigation and insolvency solicitors in the East Midlands, has left Spearing Waite in Leicester, where he had been a partner, to launch Ashteds.

The new company, which began trading today, is based in Meridian Business Park, Braunstone.

Ashwin, who has 20 years experience in the profession, said the structure of larger law firms made it hard to offer clients good service and value for money.

“I am sad to be leaving Spearing Waite where I have spent eight good years and worked with some very good people,” he said.

“However, the legal world has changed dramatically in the last few years.

“Clients now require true specialists who are prepared to be innovative when it comes to charging.

“Larger firms have rigid structuring and overheads are a big problem. Lawyers may well be good but if their hands are tied by hourly rates and chargeable hours, clients can feel dissatisfied.

“I want to not only offer clients a truly first rate specialist firm which concentrates on a specific area of work but also flexibility when it comes to fees.”

Ashwin, who has taken two staff members from Spearing Waite with him, has gained an enviable reputation, having acted in some complex and ground breaking cases.

In 2012, his work on a case which now means a bankrupt person could be forced to draw their pension and hand it over to creditors, received national news coverage.

“A common complaint from clients is that they rarely feel they are getting a true specialist to deal with their cases,” said Ashwin.

“We will not be all things to all men. Our intention is to specialise in all areas of dispute resolution and insolvency.

“A niche firm can provide a quality service at a reasonable price.

“If a client requires additional specialist services, such as property or corporate, then we can bring in specialist advisers on a case by case basis.”

Joining Ashwin at the new firm are associate Charlotte Clarke and PA Jayne Smith.

Tom Bower, senior partner at Spearing Waite, in Friar Lane, which employs about 75 people, said: “He goes with our blessing and there will be a healthy ongoing relationship between us, Ashwin and his business.”
